Cork storage
Corks can be stored up to 12 months in the original package in a well ventilated area at 10 - 25 °C and 40 - 60 % air humidity.
Prior to use
Before use the corks should be stored in their original package at least 24 hours at ambient temperature (18 - 12 °C) to reach temperature equilibrium.
Bottles
The corks are designed for bottlenecks according to DIN EN 12726 with an entrance diameter of 18.3 mm (+/- 0.2 mm with 20 mm depth). When using bottles with other dimensions, user-tests are recommended prior to the use of SWAN-KORK.
Corker
The clamping jaws of the corker should be adjusted to not less than 16 mm. The cork tappet must be exactly centered. Heating of the corker must be avoided. Before and during the processing the corker must be examined regularly for its operability, in order to exclude mechanical damages (e.g. cuts) at the corks.
Filling level
The filling level depends on the type of bottle and on the temperature of the wine during the filling. The optimal distance between cork and wine is 20 mm at 20° C (increase free space for lower temperatures with 1mm / °C). If the filling temperature of the wine is below 20° C, the distance between wine and cork must be adapted.
Treatment after filling
Turning the filled bottles should not take place immediately after filling and corking, so that the corks can expand.
Storage of filled bottles
The storage temperature of the filled bottles should not differ substantially from the temperature of the wines during filling.
Transport of filled bottles
In the filling it should be considered, that during later transport at higher temperatures, volumetric expansion of the wine will occur.
With the first use of the synthetic corks a test run must be made for machine adjustment.
